By Carson Grant.
The term “420” originated in the early 1970s with a group of high schoolers in San Rafael, California, known as “The Waldos”. They used “420” as code to meet at 4:20 p.m. after school and search for a hidden cannabis grow. While they never found it, the term caught on, spreading through the Grateful Dead scene and eventually becoming a global symbol for cannabis culture.
